MY BRIEF BIOLOGICAL SKETCH

Lynn A. Wood, MA, CCC-A, LSLS Cert AVT

Lynn is a Rehabilitative Audiologist with a private practice at the Auditory Verbal Center of Wheaton in Illinois. Auditory Verbal Therapy is the heart of her practice but she also specializes in post cochlear implant rehabilitation for teens and adults and therapy for individuals with auditory processing needs. Lynn serves on the Board of the Illinois Chapter of AGBell. She is an active Listening and Spoken Language consultant in the field of auditory rehabilitation.  Lynn presents at local, state, and national conferences and has worked internationally mentoring professionals and providing auditory verbal therapy. Lynn began her LSL experience in college and then in 1994 was certified in the inaugural group of AVTs by Auditory Verbal International, Inc.

MY EXPERIENCE

I am a Licensed Audiologist and a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist who has provided caring and expert therapy with individuals with hearing loss and their families for over 30 years, with the last 25 years in private practice, the Auditory-Verbal Center of Wheaton.
Auditory Verbal Therapy is the heart of the practice.  Cornerstones of the Auditory Verbal Therapy approach include: ongoing assessment of your child’s needs and abilities, proactive use of state-of-the-art hearing technology, and guiding and coaching parents to be the child’s best teacher and advocate. It is a highly specialized, family-centered therapy approach for children with hearing loss that uses a developmental approach, integrating listening, speech, language and cognition. The AV Center's home-like office allows children to practice listening and spoken language goals while immersed in familiar activities. While the child is learning family members are practicing strategies for integrating listening into everyday life. The goal of Auditory Verbal Therapy is to maximize the child’s auditory and spoken language potential so that he or she can transition into the general education setting as soon as possible.

Families are encouraged to schedule a consultation to learn more about AV Therapy and to see if the AV Center is the best fit for the family.

I am a highly specialized audiologist with an elite certification as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist in Auditory-Verbal Therapy through the AGBell Academy, which is the national certifying body. I began my experience in auditory-based therapy as an undergraduate in college and was later inducted in the first group of therapists certified in Auditory-Verbal Therapy worldwide in 1994. Currently, I am one of five practitioners in Illinois who have achieved certification, as Auditory-Verbal Therapists (AVTs) and over 600 LSLSs are currently certified worldwide.

In 1990, I began working with cochlear implant teams and pioneering cochlear implant rehabilitation utilizing Auditory-Verbal Therapy practices.

Therapy for children with Auditory Processing Disorders is another area of my experience and specialization.
